Long Weekend

This was taken early in the morning

As the 19th of April (Monday) was a holiday, it meant that we had a super long weekend. Thus the four of us (Ivan, Dean, Camy and myself) decided to go for a short vacation in Pangkor Island. It's some sort of a replacement plan to our initial 'After batch dinner After party' which was to be held on Friday night. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, some of us couldn't make it and thus came along the plan to go visit Pangkor Island.

We departed early Saturday morning from UTP, stopped by Setiawan for chicken rice breakfast and headed on to Lumut to catch our ferry. As soon as we checked in at the inn, we rented bicycles and went cycling round island. Mind you, it isn't an easy feat as there were lots of hills to be scaled under the scourging hot sun. At some point, all of us just couldn't cycle up the 20degrees incline anymore, so we started pushing our bikes. When we finally finished the round and were back at Sungai Pinang town, we were totally exausted, but we felt a great sense of achivement.

From there on, the ride back to our inn at Teluk Nipah, was mostly a level road with only one final hill. The ride downhill for the last hill can only be described as awesomely fantastic. At that point i just let go of the bike brakes and enjoyed the downhill sprint with the wind rushing against my face. Once the rest of them arrived back at the entrance of the inn, we rushed to get iced cocunut juice. It was simply heavenly considering the heat and how hot we were feeling after the ride.

After cooling off abit, we headed to the beach for our water sports which included kayak-ing, banana boat ride, water wrestling among ourselves, throwing sand around, swimming and lounging in the sea. Guess after all those activities, it explains why I'm three tones darker than my original skin tone and achy all over. After dinner, we drained what remaining energy we had playing cards and hit the bed.

All in all, I have been to Pangkor numerous times throughout my uni days, but this is the first time I have done so much that I've never done before there in less than one day. Although I was really tired when we reached UTP late sunday afternoon and a chocolatey coloured tann to boot, I definitely enjoyed myself with my crazily wonderful bunch of friends.  ^_^

P.S: Credits to Ivan and Dean for taking the cycling pictures.

The 24 hour plan weekend

A few weeks back, Camy, Dean, Ivan and myself were contemplating on the agenda we had planned out for one crazy weekend. It was definitely fun filled, tiring, healthy and indulging at the same time. The things which we successfully executed that weekend are as follows

1) The Good Friday Evening Mass
This was to be attended at St. Michael's Church (SMC) in Ipoh. A rather long service but shorter than was expected.

2) Euphonious 2009
This is the battle of bands competition which is held once a year in UTP. Rather enjoyed the guest performance by BUNKFACE. Although the genre of music is not my normal kind but I must say that their performance is rather spectacular for a Malaysian band standard.

3) Mamak session
Since we would all be starving by midnight, it was essential that we go grab a midnight snack after watching the Euphonious performance. Of course, as expected, we filled our tummies with yummies such as 'Roti Bakar Telur Manis' and 'Roti Bom'. Utterly sinful, but totally delicious.

4) Bukit Kledang
On the very next morning, we were scheduled to go climb or rahter, hike up Bukit Kledang. This was further elaborated on my previous post .

5) Dim Sum
The reward for going up Bukit Keledang was of course a hearty Dim Sum breakfast at the shops near Bukit Keledang. Counting this time, it has been my third time there this semester. The 'siew mai's' and 'lo mai kais' are not to be missed.

6) Japanese Food
We were definitely missing Japanese food since we only get to eat it when we go to Ipoh. As we were going for Easter Vigil Service in Ipoh, we decided to leave earlier for Ipoh and have dinner at a Japanese Restaurant. I already had my heart set on the 'Unaju' which is basically eel rice. Yum Yum...

7) Easter Vigil Service
This was one of the longest Easter Vigil mass, or service that I have attended to begin with. It lasted a total of 3 hours plus. But nevertheless, it was a very good service.

8) Sugar High Time
On our way back to UTP, we dropped by at Mc-Donalds drive thru to grab apple pies and Sundaes each. Would gladly get that sugar high again anytime.

Bukit Keledang

There were several motivations for this trip to Bukit Keledang. Among them was of course the reward of delicious dim sum once we finish the climb up.

On a personal level, the climb was rather challenging for me. I was really short of breath and could barely feel my toes after passing the last rest area on the way up. I was starting to get rather afraid that my legs would just give way beneath me and then I'll start rolling all the way downhill. The expression which Camy would use to describe that situation would be "Jatuh Masuk Gaung"

Thank goodness my friends were there to continuously encourage me almost every step of the way. And of course to psycho me as well that the peak isn't as far as it seems.
Thank You GUYS!!

We took approximately one hour plus (close to two hours) to reach the top - nothing really spectacular at the top really. Coming down however only took us about 35 - 40minutes. I'm not sure whether it was the easier walk down the slope, or was it our stomachs driving us to walk faster so that we could finally have breakfast. A wonderful morning full of achivements I would say. Looking forward to the execution of our evening plans.   ^_^

A word of advice for those who are planning to go Bukit Keledang. Stop at the highest rest area. Only climb to the top if you really want to work yourself out to the max. Otherwise, the view at the highest rest area is fantastic enough.

P.S: picture for this outing has not been received yet. Will be updated again later.

Cameron Highlands

It has been almost a year since I last went to Camerons. I definitely love the highlands especially because of the cold weather. But this time around, the trip was really fantastic not only because of the cold weather, but also because of the great company and of course, not forgetting, all the yummy delicious food available. It was a pity that only Camy, Ivan and myself could make it for this trip as Dean was climbing Mount Kinabalu at the same time.

The trip was totally relaxing and wonderful. We didn't exactly plan where we wanted to go, but just headed on to wherever we wanted to go. That way, there was less to expect and more to enjoy. The messiest part was getting drenched on our walk back from Robinson falls. Soaked in the pouring rain and shivering from the cold wind by the time we got back to the car. That didn't dampen our spirits, nor whet our appetite for more food.

Among the highlights of our trip were
1. Brinchang Boh Tea Plantation
2. Robinson falls
3. Agricultural farm behind cactus valley
4. Delicious Strawberry yoghurt and Strawberry Sundae
5. Sungai Palas Boh Tea Plantation
6. Mount Brinchang

A relaxing, satisfying and memorable trip. Hoping for more trips to come and this time hopefully the all members of the group will be able to make it.
